Project: Public Health Awareness Campaign
My Role: Writer, Verbal designer
Dementia affects 45% of people over the age of 55, yet it remains a challenging and often taboo topic to discuss. To tackle this issue, the State of California partnered with our team of designers as well as experts from UCSD to create a campaign that aims to destigmatize dementia, encourage early detection, and improve communication between patients and doctors.
When developing the voice for this public health initiative, it was essential to consider the diverse audience: Californians over the age of 55. We crafted the content at a 5th-grade reading level, ensuring it was both simple and accessible. The design emphasized an easy-to-navigate user experience, with language that was approachable yet informed, blending a conversational tone with the necessary medical authority.
We began by designing a physical Brain Health Toolkit, which was then adapted for digital use. The tablet version below featured a large font and an intuitive interface. My responsibility was to write for consistency in the flow, tone, and syntax across both the physical and digital versions of the toolkit.
